New Build Dwellings

Northumberland

Insight Architectural Design Ltd were instructed to design a scheme for up to 18 dwellings on an edge of village site in Northumberland. The scheme provided a housing mix of self-build plots, affordable homes, single level living in the form of bungalows, and three and four bed family homes.

The scheme looked to maximise a long, relatively narrow site. The edge of village setting required careful design to ensure that the proposed dwellings were in keeping with the built form of the existing village, as well as improving the existing village boundary. Traditional materials of random rubble stone, natural slate and cladding were utilised in a contemporary form. The proposed dwellings provided large family homes with generous amenity space and private parking. Interiors are light and open plan, providing contemporary family living spaces. the scheme utilises large green areas, where the planting of native species trees and hedges would help to create wildlife corridors into the site, as well as assisting screening the development in the landscape.
